So, it was suggested to me from a listener to make one of the freely downloadable and high bitrate mp3's from Nine Inch Nails the theme song for FUP. And, I must admit that the thought of doing that did tempt me! Then I got to thinking, which doesn't happen too often, podcasters from around the world are probably doing just that this entire week! Basically, I would be following the crowd! Instead, I have decided to use another one of Scott McGrath's theme songs that he generously sent to us and use it as the theme music for the rest of the year! Scott has done an excellent job at getting the essence of they type of music I like and balance that with the attitude of Fresh Ubuntu! Well done Scott, and thank you for allowing us to use you work. I did, BTW, download some of the new Nine Inch Nails music, although the free version, and I liked the sound. Again, I am not the biggest fan of their type of music even though I grew up with Nine Inch Nails! I did want to support them in the only way I knew how to and that was to show that there was demand for online music AND that the distribution method was the most democratic, least hassle, pro-artist, anti-racketeering way to do it. It was, in short, what I call a REAL "win-win" for the artist and the consumer. The band not only got great publicity but won over the on-the-cusp fans like me. I am not sure how much money they made from sales of their various packages but if you subtract the cost of customary distribution methods, i.e. Cd's and even iTunes, I'd be willing to bet they did alright. Let's face it, besides producing the masters and digitizing most of the real work has been done and since it was distributed on bittorrent networks there were relatively zero server costs unless you wanted to get other special priced packages. Well, enough talk, enjoy the podcast, featuring the ever-present news segment and a man page minute.
